The African American Community Agency Service Agency is a non profit organization located in San Jose, California providing a variety of programs for the community with focus on the African American community. The needs of the African American Community are to be met by acting as an advocate for the community, promoting effective community relations, maximizing and focusing community resources and services, building a network that represents its voice on issues and providing or facilitating the delivery of mental, social, physical, and culture services to the African American Community of greater San Jose. The Agency was founded in 1978. It is housed in an old fire house owned by the City of San Jose. The building is approximately 5,000 square feet. The office is staffed by five employees with most activities supported by volunteers. Since 1979, it has been centrally located in San Jose at 6th and Julian Streets to best respond to the needs of the African American Community. It administers many programs geared to youth, seniors, and the general community.
It is the mission of the African American Community Service Agency to preserve the dignity and culture of a diverse African American Community and to provide services that promote full participation of African Americans of Santa Clara County in the general society. The agency services are focused on the African American Community, however, it also serves other ethnic groups. The distribution of its service is African American 80%, Latino 10%, Asian-Pacific Islander 5%, and White, non Latino 5%. |
