The Police in San Jose -- A Community Forum

The San Jose Human Rights Commission (HRC) and the San Jose Independent Police Auditor (IPA) invite you to join us at a community forum regarding the police in San Jose. The last forum, held in November 2006, drew over 200 people -- with more than 45 individuals offering testimony regarding their experiences with the San Jose Police Department. The 2nd Forum is scheduled for Thursday, January 18, 2007, from 6:30-8:30pm, at 830 North Capitol Avenue, San Jose. Flyers regarding the event are attached and also included in the body of this email. Please forward them to any individuals, groups or other agencies that should attend. Spanish and Vietnamese simultaneous translation will be available on the night of the event.

The purpose of the two forums is to offer members of the community the opportunity to provide testimony to the HRC and the IPA regarding issues and experiences involving the San Jose Police Department. The San Jose Chief of Police will also be present. Our hope is that organizations that have a network into the most concerned communities will participate and offer their views, both positive and negative, regarding the police in San Jose.

We hope to see you at this important community event. Please do not hesitate to call with any questions: (408) 794-6226. We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the work that you do on behalf of the community.

Sincerely,
Community Forum Planning Committee, Human Rights Commission, City of San Jose & Independent Police Auditor, City of San Jose
