Celebrate REALTIST® Week: April 15-21, 2007

The San Jose Association of REALTIST® (SJAOR) is comprised of African American professionals in the real estate industry. Our membership includes residential and commercial real estate sales agents and brokers, loan officers and mortgage brokers, title companies, appraisers, insurance agents, developers, designers and more. We focus our professional practices on serving the needs of the underserved.

The original members of the National Association of Real Estate Brokers are called REALTIST® because at the time African Americans were barred from membership in the National Association of REALTORS®. Although composed principally of African Americans, the REALTISTŪ organization embraces all qualified real estate practitioners who are committed to achieving the ideals of our vision, which is "Democracy in Housing".

The San Jose Association of Realtist is the local chapter of the National Association of Real Estate Brokers (NAREB). NAREBŪ is the oldest minority trade association, whose mission is to enhance the economic improvement of its members and the minority community it serves. NAREBŪ was founded in 1947, on the principle that all citizens have the right to equal housing opportunities, regardless of race, creed or color.

Over the years, our members have been at the forefront of the struggle to gain equal housing for all. We have become the voice and conscience of the proponents of equal housing.

Today, the San Jose Association of Realtist is active in the Silicon Valley creating resources for home buyers and owners. The SJAOR provides support services, training and education for persons interested in real estate-related activities; encourage homeownership and pride within Santa Clara County; ensure fair and equal housing for African American residents; and enhance the overall quality of living for the community. The REALTIST® legacy is an attitude of extraordinary service. "Anybody can be a REALTOR®, but everybody is not a REALTIST®."
